The gorgeous Punjabi actress, Gunjan Walia, born and brought up in Phagwara, began her acting journey from daily TV soaps and is now all set to mark her presence in “Ishq Garaari” (releasing on 25th October and written/directed by Dheeraj Rattan). Ballewood.in talks to her about how she landed here in Punjabi cinema, her struggles and much more.
Prakriti: How did Ishq Garaari come your way?
Gunjan: I am a pure punjaban wanting to do a good Punjabi movie for long. When I heard the script for the role of ‘Sweety’, I really wanted to do it because it is really a golden opportunity to work with ‘Dheeraj sir’. He is a man with abundant talent and I knew he could never go wrong.
Prakriti: While working with so many stars together in this movie, whom did you bond well?
Gunjan: The movie has a huge starcast but the point is that I really didn’t shoot with everyone. However, it was nice working with the ones I did. Ranvijay is a complete gentleman, perfect to talk and amazing to work with. I have heard that people say actresses can’t be friends but truly Mandy Takhar is the sweetest person I have met in this industry; we are promoting the movie together and having lots of fun too. I’ve really bonded well with her.
Prakriti: How was your experience working with Dheeraj Rattan?
Gunjan: I had been working in television since long- dealing with so many people but honestly, Dheeraj Sir is the best amongst all of them. He is a man who never gets annoyed . No matter what happens, he always maintains that calm attitude and injects positivity in the whole atmosphere. His style of working is different from others and that's why I think he has achieved so much today.
Prakriti: What other Punjabi projects are you doing?
Gunjan: At present, Ishq Garaari is my foremost priority, I have to promote it well and once I get free, I will think about signing anything else. I really have to give my 100 percent to what I have done, than just signing projects one after the other without giving my 100 percent to the previous one.
Prakriti: Share with us something about your family? Are they supportive about your being in this profession ?
Gunjan: I come from a typical Punjabi family, born and brought up in Phagwara. Me, my father, mother, brother, sister in law and their two beautiful kids complete my family. I am blessed truly with the best family ever and they are always supportive to me. Although my father initially, wanted me to be an IAS officer but destiny had different plans for me and now everybody in family is completely ok with what I am doing.
Prakriti: Tell us about your education?
Gunjan: I have graduated from Apeejay College Jalandar.
Prakriti: Tell us about your struggle days?
Gunjan: All days aren’t bright. I have seen bad days when there was no work in hand or any hope but still the support of my family in those days helped me reach here. How from Jalandar, I reached Chandigarh for a post graduation degree, then became a airhostess and finally, ended up being an actress with Balaji Telefilms.
Prakriti: Your high point in life ?
Gunjan: Character of ‘Sweety’ in Ishq Garaari (always wanted to work in a top Punjabi movie ), and serial Ghar ki Lakshmi betiyaan.
Prakriti: Dream role you would want to play?
Gunjan: Juliet from Jatt and Juliet series
Prakriti: Your favourite Punjabi movie?
Gunjan: Jatt and Juliet 1. I can watch that movie a zillion times
Prakriti: Any message for Punjabi audience?
Gunjan: Audience are the people for who we work. I would request you all to please go and watch my movie on 25th October. Lots of hardwork and efforts have been put in and your response and support is what I need at the moment!
